On the 25 September 2011 we review the UK zombie comedy Stag Night of the Dead, and we like it enough to give it 4 out of 5. We are please to announce that as of today Stag Night of the Dead is now available in the US as a first exclusive on iTunes.

DVD extras: Behind the Scenes featurette, Blooper reel, Deleted Scenes, Audio Commentary, ‘How to Make your Own Zombie’
Dean’s getting married tomorrow, and nothing’s going to stop the crazy full-on bachelor (“stag”) party organised by his mates – not even the recent zombie apocalypse.

The six guys, and a stripper they’ve hired, take their debauchered fun to a top secret military base to play ‘Zomball’ – like Paintball, except that you get to shoot captured zombies. Since the zombie outbreak has been contained, private contractors have come up with money-spinning ways of disposing of the undead.

What begins as a fun but gory game, soon turns into a fight for their lives, as the zombies turn on them. Will the hapless stag party survive… and make it to the church on time?

Writer/Director: Neil ‘Napoleon’ Jones

Starring: Sebastian Street (‘Age of Heroes’, ‘Airborne’, ‘Jack Falls’)
Rez Kempton (‘Baseline’, ‘My Son the Fanatic’, ‘Reuniting the Rubins’)
Jeff Rudom (‘Bonded by Blood’)

Today I would like to give a shout out to Simon Pegg as it's his birthday, and this also gives me an excuse to re-post one of the first reviews we did here on Zombiesdrule. The film is  of course  Shaun of the Dead and brought Pegg worldwide fame.

Shaun of the Dead wasn't the first time Simon Pegg had a run in with zombies, in 1999 Pegg stared one of my favorite British TV series called Spaced. One of these episodes was called "Art" and was  the inspiration for creating Shaun of the Dead. You can see a clip below, but be warn you may get  hooked. Spaced also stars Nick Frost and was directed by Edgar Wright.

I don't know if I've ever yelled more at fictional characters for doing obviously stupid things. Things like "We've barricaded all our doors and windows cause there are zombies outside but my daughter is scared of the noises outside so I better go see what it is." And there you have the first scene in one singular run-on sentence.

Zombie Diaries 2 is the sequel to the film... you guessed it... Zombie Diaries. It follows a group of UK soldiers who the sole survivors a zombie assault on the base they were protecting refugees at. The zombie assault came shortly after they gained word of a sanctuary elsewhere in Europe. Having no where else to go they make their way to the coast searching for the truth behind message.

It probably doesn't help that I wasn't a fan of the first Zombie Diaries but  it's really hard to get into any film when the characters are making you scream at them for being so unbelievably idiotic. I will at least grant the filmmakers the success in making this film a little scarier than the first. But again, it's hard to be truly scared when you're just questioning why anyone in their right mind would do that! Acting and FX were a bit better than the first. Basically if you happened to like the first film than you'll probably be able to see past the second films shortcomings. But if you haven't seen either I'd search this site for a better way to spend 90 minutes of your time.

It's a bit ironic that it's taken me over a month to write this review. I feel like I'm channeling Anton's, the hero and villian of the the film, lazy procrastinating attitude towards everything. That's right... I was just exploring the character.

Idle Hands is a horror comedy about Anton Tobias and his unusual problem. After a seventeen year life of sloth Anton is the ultimate slacker. Spending every free moment lounging on the couch watching TV or playing video games he lives a life of "idle hands". Heeey... that's the name of the movie. Hey wakes up one morning to find that his parents have been brutally murdered. After going to his best friends for help he comes to the horrifying realization that his hand has become possessed and is responsible for his parent's death and now his friend's as well. Now Anton's hand is after his life long crush and it's up to Anton to save her by any means necessary. But hey wouldn't you cut off your hand for Jessica Alba?

I had forgotten how entertaining this film is. It's been about 10 years since I first saw it. It was a great mix of humor and horror, and the addition of Jessica Alba doesn't hurt at all. The zombie element in this movie is not a featured one. After killing his two best friends they return as zombies because walking to the white light was too much effort for them. Lazy to the end and beyond. They provide a lot of the comedy in this film, one of them being the hilarious Seth Green so you can kind of expect that. But outside of the scenes those two are in there are no zombies or zombie themes. The rest of the film is more devil possession related. So if you're ok with watching a zombie film that is really only a sub-plot zombie film then definitely give Idle Hands a viewing. You won't be disappointed. But don't expect lots of brain eating zombies and scenes of extreme zombie genocide. It's just not going to happen here.

‘King of the Zombies’ could be the first Zomedy ever made. Yes ,I know that’s a bold statement but seeing it was made in 1941 and had absolutely no horror in it, the only thing left are the laughs.
Mantan Moreland is most definitely the star of this movie, delivering the best lines and stealing the limelight away from the other actors with his perfect comedic timing.
Be forewarned, there is a lot of politically incorrect humour in this movie (remember 1941) so you may be offended, or you may find yourself watching only to see how much times have changed.

Set in the Caribbean shortly before the U.S. was drawn into WWII, ‘King of the Zombies’ is the story of an American Special Agent who, along with his butler (Mant Moreland) and his pilot, are sent on a mission to find a missing American Admiral whose plane crashed on an island. Coincidentally, our Heros’ plane crashes on an island as well, right in the middle of a graveyard - a graveyard that seems far too big for a small
island. They happen across a creepy old house owned by a sinister German doctor and his strange wife. The doctor explains that his spouse is in a mysterious trance and he is trying to find a cure. The butler soon discovers that she is not the only one: the island is full of zombies. These aren’t your typical zombies, running around eating people, or even the walking around biting people type. In this movie the zombies just kind of stare at you.
The butler tries to tell everyone about the zombies but no one believes him until he and the pilot become zombies and the Special Agent is the only one left to solve the mystery.

We watched Zombi 2 before just before watching Zombi Holocaust I we couldn't help but wonder why these people keep going to this god forsaken zombie island of death? Especially when one of them was the same actor in both movies... Oh he's supposed to be a different character? Still that's very confusing.

Body parts start going missing in a hospital where Dr. Dreylock teaches anatomy. When one cannibal worker is killed after taking the heart of a corpse, Dr. Dreylock's assistant and anthropologist Lori Ridgeway recognizes the signal of a tribe in the Moluccas Island. Dr. Peter Chandler organizes an expedition to Moluccas with his assistant George Harper and invites Lori and the journalist Susan Kelly to travel with him. They meet Doctor Obrero who asks his servant Molotto to guide the group to Kito. Once on the island, they are hunted by cannibals and zombies and find a dark secret about the island.

This film was pretty creepy. Some very uncomfortable scenes of gore and good suspense. Cheesier than a Kraft single, it manages to deliver some pretty good laughs as well. My personal favourite was when a character jumps out of a window the scene cuts to a shot of an obvious dummy hitting the ground it's arm coming off. Right away it cuts to the actor lying on the ground arm completely intact and attached to his body. I'm the kind of person who finds things like this extremely funny in old films. If you're one too and you like gruesome horror than you'll enjoy this film. The zombies weren't featured a whole lot. More of the suspense build than actual zombie action. So if you just looking for zombie fix you might want peruse this site a bit more.

And the final chapter of the Zombi/Zombie movies is complete. Of course Zombie 5: Killing Birds seemingly has nothing to do with the other Zombi films and also came out one year before Zombie 4. Figure that one out. Add to the fact that the zombies only come out in the last few minutes of the film and only one character is attacked by birds... you got yourself a film that doesn't make a whole heck of sense.

Stop me if you've heard this one before. Group of students go out into the woods to study a rare species of bird. After stumbling across a creepy abandoned house they decide to the the sensible thing and spend the night in the creepy abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. Death ensues and people start freaking out. But of course it's too late... it's always too late.

This film was disappointing to say the least. It was bordering on not even being a zombie film until they crammed everything in at the end. The horror wasn't bad. It certainly was startling at times. But the movie was slow and boring for most of the film. Once again I will say that if you're looking for zombies you might as well skip to the last 20 minutes, cause otherwise you'll be like me. Tearing your hair out waiting for some zombie action. And if you're expecting some Hitchcock like killer birds you're also out of luck, and would be better looking elsewhere. All and all a mediocre film full of lies. And lies make Zombie Jesus cry.

Night of the Little Dead was produced and co-directed by Frank Ippolito and Ezekiel Zabrowski of Ghost Works and stars a cast of familiar faces.  Bill Moseley from "The Devil’s Rejects", Penn Jillette from "Penn & Teller" and Adam Savage from the TV series "Mythbusters".

This Tale of horror takes place in the normally quiet little fisher mans bar named Sadie 'n Sadie's Grub n Grub, locals meet to have a beer and talk about the "one that got away". After a short introduction to the locals a pair of cocky guys burst in and proceed to announce how they are going to catch the biggest fish of all. After swigging down a beer they leave and the next time we see them it is complete chaos.

As you might of guessed from the title Night of the Little People has Zombie Midgets/Dwarfs/Little People in it and they are pretty darn scary looking. This well produced and filmed short has a great feeling to it. I love movies that have just the one setting, being inside the bar we are never really sure whats going on outside which makes it more suspenseful. There are rumors that it maybe being made into a full length feature and we are hoping that it does. We are also hoping to bring you an interview with one or both of the directors....stay tuned.

When Woke Up Dead appeared on Netflix we thought, "Whoop! This has to be good! It's got that guy from 'Napoleon Dynamite' in it".  We grabbed a couple of beers, sat down, pushed play and laughed....twice. Yep twice. In fact it took all the strength we could muster to get through the next 90 minutes.
The problem was Woke Up Dead started as a web series produced and starring Jon Heder (the guy from the Napoleon Dynamite) and was then strung together and turned into a "movie". This gives us 90 minutes of footage with 30 minutes (we're guessing) of flash backs to things we just saw not more then 2 minutes ago. To make things worse, they canceled Woke Up Dead after only one series, meaning the movie doesn't have an ending - it just stops! Seeing as the tag line is "The adventures of a reluctant zombie" it would have at least been cool if the zombie character looked like a zombie, but he does not.

So should we tell you what it's about?

OK then, it's the story of a run of the mill loser called Drex Greene.  He takes a pill from a stranger that he meets and the next day he wakes up dead after 'drowning' in his bathtub. With the help of his roommate, Matt, and a medical student Cassie, Drex aims to discover why he has no heartbeat and can't eat breakfast without vomiting.

There is not much more to say than that really. The average Netflix score is 2.4 stars and if you read the reviews people either love it with 5 stars or hate it with 1 star. We're going to give it 1.5 stars.

When we watch these Zombi movies I can't help but wonder why people continue to go back to this island of the dead that people keep disappearing on. I guess in the first couple of sequels they were different characters. And this one seems to be a different island. But wait a second our main character starts on the island as a little girl and comes back to it when she's grown up? I guess maybe there's some truth behind those blonde jokes.

Jenny is just a little girl when she flees from the island that her parents were killed by some voodoo zombies. Her parents were part of a medical science team looking for a cure for cancer, but the team ended up angering a voodoo priest who then raises the dead to exact revenge. 20 years or so later Jenny is on her way back to the island with a group of her friends, and seemingly no recollection or idea about the island or the events that happened there years ago... Seriously she just happens to be on a boat with some friends who are taking her back to the exact same island her parents were eaten alive on and she just goes along with it... Wow!

So apart from the ridiculous plot and the fact that the medical research team act more like military soldiers (no wonder they pissed off the local voodoo priest) the movie wasn't all crap. Yes the acting was horrible and yes the story didn't make a lick of sense but since when do most zombie films make sense or have decent acting? The zombies were pretty cool and the ending was unexpected. Bizarre but unexpected. For an average zombie film it certainly tried to break the mold. Unfortunately sometimes when you try and break the mold you end up ruining your zombie film.
