ZombieDrule thinks..Everyone has to start somewhere. Where did Peter Jackson start before making "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy? Low budget horror cult films. Where else? Seeing as it was mother's day this past weekend this movie seemed like a good one to review. "Braindead" is a story about a mother and son. Lionel Cosgrove is your everyday momma's boy who develops a liking to a local shop girl. His mother does not approve of the relationship, but unfortunately for her (and everyone else) after suffering a nasty bite from Sumatran Rat Monkey she dies. This doesn't stop her from protesting Lionel's relationship, because she promptly comes back to life and starts eating everyone and everything. Lionel, unable to cut the cord with his mother, then has to deal with everyone she ends up infecting in order to protect her. Very few films offer you a zombie rat monkey, zombie baby (complete with hilarious taking the baby to the park in stroller scene), an ass kicking ninja priest, and the record for most fake blood all in one film. "Braindead/Dead Alive" is this film. It's a film that isn't afraid to offend you and knows no boundaries. When your main character is featured repeatedly throwing punches into a stroller while onlookers watch in horror and disgust, and you successful make this the funniest scene in the film you've pretty much thrown good taste out the window.
