ZombiesDrule thinks..Burial Ground: Nights of Terror (1980) is quite possibly the creepiest zombie movie I have ever seen, and it has nothing to do with the zombies. This Italian movie starts with an old guy in a tunnel, he seems to have made a discovery of some kind and invites three couples over to share something with them. Before they arrive he goes back into the tunnel and starts hitting a panel with a hammer, the panel breaks and he gets over run by monk zombies. I'm assuming they are monk zombies because they're wearing brown pillow cases. Now these zombies are pretty creepy, they even have maggots coming out oftheir monk faces, but this is not the "creepy" bit. The three couples and a kid arrive at the old guys huge house and are met by the maid and butler, they explain that the old guy is away at the moment and to make themselves at home. Now the three couples seem to take this as an order, they put the kid to bed and then proceed to find love making spots around the house and its grounds. Now when I say love making I mean, well you know what I mean and it's more creepy than sexy, but still not CREEPY... One of the couples gets interrupted by their son Michael, he appears in the door way and gives them an accusing stare type thing. Now this is the first hint of creepy, Michael is supposed to be a 14 or 15 year old kid, but Peter Bark is 25 years old. Child labor laws in Italy at the time this film was made meant they couldn't use an actual child, so they chose Bark, a unknown midget from Rome. A clever solution but we are left looking at a 14 year old boy with a mans head. Now we are starting to get creepy.. From this point on the film consists mainly of people screaming and running around being attacked by zombies, which is what you would expect for a zombie movie. There are still a few more surprises though, the first being a scene which takes place after a fairly long and drawn out zombie battle. Michael and his mother sit down on a chair, he then kisses her on her cheek, then on her other cheek, then on her lips, then her grabs her breast and puts his hand up her short skirt... She then slaps him and he says," Whats wrong? I'm your son" CREEPY...If this wasn't bad enough the whole thing looks worse because of his strange looks. We also have the infamous scene in which there is a complete breast being bitten off, but I will let you discover that one on your own. The zombies are the slow moving type, but they seem clever, finding ways of getting into the mansion. They are also very well done, very ugly and gory. There is lots off blood, with one very gruesome zombie killing scene involving a bath tub, but it's not scary, it's not the kind of film that will make you jump, but it's still one to watch. It will make you go "ewwwww, what the hell is going on?" and you will say this more than once, so much is unexplained.Go on give it go, it's worth it just to see this....
