ZombieDrule thinks..Believe it or not there have been many attempts at making a gay zombie movie. Mostly they are bad, so very bad. The best to date was a spoof trailer by Collage Humour called Gay Zombie. We have been working our way through all the zombie movies on Netflix when we came across Creatures from the Pink Lagoon. The cover pretty much sets the tone of the movie, the tag line says it all: They're Horrifying!
They're Hideous! They're Hungry! And they're FABULOUS Reluctantly we hit play and braced ourselves for a low budget crappy film, what we got was a well written, well directed and well acted zombie movie.
Sure it was camp, kitschy and over the top, but that's half the fun. The film is set in the 1960’s and filmed as if it was made then as well. Shot in black and white, complete with the “oooooweeeeeeoooooo” ghostly music. It's not really a gory film, unless you have a problem seeing guys kissing then it could be your worst nightmare. Oh and if you don't like show tunes you may also want to give it a miss. If its not clear by now this movie is a spoof, its full of one liners, stereotypes like the naive blond who looks like Freddy from Scooby Doo, the bad ass leather jacket wearing boy friend, the nerd, the dumb jock and the bimbo. The funniest part for me is in the first 5 minuets of the film when a hand shoots up out of a fresh grave and then goes limp at the wrist (trust me, its funny then I make it sound). If you fancy watching a funny gay zombie movie this film is for you, its fabulous darling!
Best Line - "Zombie or not, I know a show tune loving friend of Dorothy when I see one." Best Weapon - A Big Dildo (well it's the funniest weapon) |
