ZombieDrule thinks..If you have read the review for the original 1978 Dawn of the Dead you will already know that it’s one of my favorite Zombie Films. This could mean that the 2004 remake may not stand a chance of getting a fair review, well maybe if it had been crap. That wasn't the case. I loved this movie. Instead of trying to completely remake the classic Romero film they took his screen play and brought it up to date. They opened the film differently, added a few more characters and changed the ending. The new version of Dawn of the Dead starts off with a few moments of normal everyday life and then… wham! Straight into a world gone crap. Can you imagine waking up one morning to find the little girl next door, your partner and all your neighbours have died? Not only are they dead, they’re walking around trying to eat people who are not dead. If that wasn’t bad enough the zombies aren’t the old style slow zombies, these are the new fast zombies. Walking dead, more like running dead. Our lead lady does what every sane person would do and gets the hell out of there. After meeting up with some other survivors they hold out at a shopping mall to wait it out until help arrives. Of course it never does and it all goes horribly wrong. As I said earlier, I loved this movie. The acting was good, the zombies and effects were great, and we got a good story line. The pace of the film was also brought up to date being much quicker then the original Dawn of the Dead. For me, this is a good example of how to remake a film. I wonder what George Romero thinks?
