ZombiesDrule thinks..Imagine "Twilight" but a non girly version and funny with zombies thrown into the mix. And instead of being based on a crappy book for teens it was based on a cool comic. You now have "Dylan Dog: Dead of Night".
"Dylan Dog: Dead of Night" is about a private investigator with a troubled past that catches up to him. Before spying on cheating husbands for a living, Dylan used to keep order in the secret world of the dead. They walk among us. Vampires, werewolves, and oh yes zombies! Dylan was the objective enforcer whenever there was an issue between sides. That was until one faithful day where his whole world came crashing down. After being retired for so long he is now forced to face his past and try and stop the dead from crashing into the human world. Knowing nothing about the comic book, other than there was a comic book this movie was based off, I decided to do a little research and found that there is a lot of background to this thing. First off Tiziano Scalvi was the creator of Dylan Dog while Claudio Villa created the graphical representation. Coincidentally he drew inspiration from the actor Rupert Everett, who he had seen recently in the movie "Another Country". This is coincidental because Rupert Everett played what some consider the first on screen representation of Dylan Dog in the movie "Cemetery Man". Everett plays Francesco Dellamorte who is considered an Italian alter ego of Dylan Dog and even appeared in a few Dylan Dog comics. Many say this on screen portrayal of Dylan Dog was much truer to the comic than "Dylan Dog: Dead of Night". I haven't read the comic so I guess I'll have to believe them. What I do know is that despite the movie's poorly done CG effects (we felt like we were watching an early 90's movie) it was actually an enjoyable film and relied more on makeup an costumes than you see in a lot of films today. There were a good number of funny gags to keep you entertained, the story was intriguing enough to keep you interested. There were some pretty cool zombie moments. One thing I will complain about is the zombies kind of felt like they were peppered in just for the sake of it. I mean they provided a lot of comic relief which is good but they weren't vital to the story. They didn't even have a head zombie like the vampires and werewolves did. Also the ending wasn't very good. You go through a lot just to get there and then they solve everything without really doing anything. It was dissatisfying. But even so I'd recommend this movie, if you like silly horror films. Just be prepared for the zombies to be secondary to the vampires and werewolves. But hey it does have a 10 foot tall bad ass mega-zombie in it. That alone is worth the price of admission.
