After meeting George at the Seattle ZomBcon we can now present you with possibly the worlds shortest interview with George A. Romero. But its still an interview so it counts... Bite Size Bio: George Romero was born on the 4th February 1940 in New York City, New York, USA After graduating from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he and his friends formed a company called "Image Ten Productions" In the late 1960s George and John A. Russo wrote a screen play for a film, all the members of "Image Ten Productions" put $10,000 (USD) and produced Night of the Living Dead. With a budget of just over $100,000 (USD) it was shot in black and white and became a cult classic. In 1978 after several non zombie related films Geroge returned to the "of the Dead" series with Dawn of the Dead (1978). He then went on to make 4 more "of the Deads"
The Interview with George A. RomeroZombiesDrule - Hello George, How are you? George A. Romero - I'm very well thank you. ZD - May I ask you a few questions? George - Yes you may. ZD - Your here at ZomBcon being honored as the the godfather of zombie movies. Is this something you set out to do, did you think zombies would become this big. George - I never set out to make zombie movies, in fact I don't really consider that I've made a zombie movie. Zombies to me are living people under a spell. like the Hiation zombies in White Zombie (1932). Night of the Living Dead had what I thought was a new type of monsters in it. Dead people coming back to life. The press started to call them zombies and I guess it caught on. The one thing I always try to do is make a statement, about society. ZD - I see. Do you have any more "of the Dead" movies planned? George - Yes, I have ideas for two more, but it all depends on how much money Survival of the Dead makes. The two new films would continue to follow characters from Diary of the Dead. At that point George got rushed away....and I never got to say thank you. Oh and if you are wondering why he got rushed away check out the video below...... |
