ZombiesDrule thinks..When I first sat down to watch "I Am Legend" I really wasn't expecting much. Not sure why but I guess I figured it'd probably be another "I Robot" FX driven film. Whether it's a zombie film or not it was surprisingly good. The film did a great job making you care about the characters (all two of them) and what was going to happen to them. "I Am Legend" is set in New York City three years after what was supposed to be the cure for cancer ends up, as you may of guessed, being the exact opposite and creates a specie of vampiresque cannibals. Insert debate on whether or not this movie is a zombie film here. I will say I personally don't think so. Maybe it meets certain criteria but I think if it doesn't feel like a zombie film, it's not a zombie film. And this didn't feel like a zombie film. It did have pretty cool, freaky, scary as hell creatures though. And Mike Patton did the vocals for the creatures so that makes them even cooler. This film gives the viewer an accurate look at what it would be like to be the Last Man On Earth, which of course the title of the book and film that I Am Legend was based on. Trapped in your own loneliness. Learning how to deal with loss. Fighting dementia. And Will Smith does a good job taking us on this emotional roller coaster. I would recommend this film to any fan of thrillers. But if you're looking for your "pure" zombie fix I'd try something like "Dawn of the Dead" instead.
Best Line - "It's just... I was saving that bacon!" Best Weapon - Sam... the dog. |
