The day this game came out everyone at my workplace got it. Later that night there was something oddly satisfying about pouncing on one of my coworkers as a hunter and ripping his guts out. Maybe it's not that odd.

Left 4 Dead is a zombie apocalypse survival game, I had to make up a genre for this game, that involves you and 3 other players trying to get from point A on the map to point B. This game is best played with a full party of friends, as you will find the computers can be frustrating and a lot less chatty. The game also provides a versus mode that gives you a chance to play as one of four different infected, a boomer, hunter, smoker and a tank. In versus mode you alternate playing as the survivors and playing as the infected. When playing as the zombies the object is to stop the survivors from reaching the end.

This game was a game that took off like wildfire. I can remember playing it almost every night for 2 months straight. Unfortunately just as quickly as it took off interest seem to completely die in the span of a week. The missions became very repetitive, the versus mode was only good in 2 of 4 maps and people began to make the most of bugs in the game making it less fun to play. Truth be told it felt like an incomplete game when all was said and done. That being said it was the most fun I've ever had playing an unfinished game.

Another complaint made about the game was right before Valve released a trim backed version of Down Loadable Content (DLC) that was originally promised they announced they'd be releasing a Left 4 Dead 2, only a year after the release of the first. Many saw this as a cash grab and thought Left 4 Dead 2 should of been a DLC for Left 4 Dead.

Despite it's shortcomings Left 4 Dead is a very fun game that provided hours of entertainment. It does an extremely good job of giving the user a feel of actually being part of a zombie film. I would only recommend getting it if you know some people who are still playing it frequently. Otherwise you'll probably only play it a couple of times and then it will just collect dust. Playing with strangers just doesn't give you the same experience. And if there are a group of you thinking about buying it, just buy Left 4 Dead 2.
