ZombiesDrule thinks..This was a film school project at the RIT School of Film and Animation, it consists of nine separate shoots with nine different directors, and then was put together for the final product. The film itself was written by one person, Dan Sullivan with the concept of having nine separate stories in mind. Dan was inspired by the Stephen King short story Night Surf, Stephen King agreed under his "Dollar Baby Deal." You can read more about this in the interview with Dan Sullivan here>> The film was well done for a student project. Some of the parts were better than others, but on the whole they were enjoyable. And if we found ourselves not liking one of them it was kind of refreshing to know that there's a new scenario coming round the corner. They tackled some interesting zombie topics too. Like how someone can get too carried away with the zombie labeling and forget that they were once people. Causing this person to become the real monster. Also how accidentally killing a human when you've been killing zombies for what seems like forever can mess with your psyche. Or handing a gun over to your 10 year old kid to prepare him for the fight to come. Tough subjects for any film, handled very well. Remembering this is a student film you can kind of have an idea of what to expect in the way of acting or sound mixes. I'd say both were alright, and not bad for a student film. Certainly seen a fair share of zombie films that weren't done by students that were a lot worse. Now how do we rate a movie which is in fact 9 movies? Project Nine was produced to be watched as one film so we rated it as such. Interestingly we then rated each part separately and worked out the average, it ended up being the same score. So to sum up, congratulations to Dan Sullivan who conceived the project and convinced the faculty at RIT School of Film and Animation into letting it happen, and congratulations to all involved in making Project Nine . If you enjoy watching amateur zombie films I'd recommend "Project 9", If you enjoy watching b-movies I would say give it ago. But if you only like big budget zombie films that deliver non-stop blood and guts, this won't be your cup of tea. |
