ZombiesDrule thinks...In case you missed the review the prequel of the film here it is. "Return of the Living Dead 4: Necropolis" We follow our hero Julian again as he tries to rebuild the pieces of his life after losing so much in the first film. Things don't start off good when he gets word that his Uncle is dead. Although after watching the first film I wouldn't of thought that would have bothered him that much. Considering his uncle was an evil super villian bent on world domination. Julian and his new girlfriend Jenny end up cleaning out the attic to his Uncle's house when they discover two barrels of the trioxin chemical. Not knowing what it is they take it to Cody so he can run some tests in his lab. After a few quick tests he finds out it's a mind altering drug of some kind which is enough for Jenny's brother to try it before they know if it's safe. After experiencing a trippy high (but not being turned into a zombie) him and Cody decide to sell the drug (called "Z") to other students at their college despite protests from Julian and Jenny. Later it is discovered that anyone who took the drug will turn into a zombie and it's a race against the clock as they try and shut down the big Halloween rave where everyone is popping "Z" and turning into zombies. So this movie is supposed to take place after the events that happened in Necropolis. But it's weird that all the recurring characters seem to forget all their zombie experiences and none of them recognize that people are turning into zombies. It's also weird that some characters act extremely different than in the first film. I know college is a time for coming out of your shell but the computer hacker from the first film was now a chemistry wizard and the geeky smart girl (but still attractive in a nerdy way) was now a slutty ditz. Even with that I would say this film is a little bit better than it's predecessor because it was a bit funnier and had a lot of nudity. It was kind of like they spent their boobies budget all on one film. The acting was still awful. The story was a bit more on track and easier to follow. Dialogue still bizarre at times. I would almost give this film a 2/5 with a borderline recommendation to die hard zombie fans. It was much truer to the campy fun of "The Return of the Living Dead" series. But sadly this film had probably the worst thing I've ever seen in a zombie film. After a zombie gets free from one of the trioxin barrels and gives a super brief super weak fight with one of the main characters he disappears when they thought they defeated him. "He must return at the end of the film" I thought "For an epic battle." No, no. The next time you see, what should of been the featured zombie in this movie, he's standing by the highway holding a sign that reads "Rave or Bust"! So many things wrong with that! Call me a purist but there are limits to my how zombies should act tolerance. I don't like it when zombies can talk full sentences or even a coherent word, but I look past it. But this I couldn't look past. Zombies don't politely stand on the side of the highway with signs, trying to hitch a ride. And he stayed there for the rest of the film. Spoilers be damned. The movie ended with him ditching the sign and walking down the highway. I mean he could of walked to that rave instead of standing there all night. Yes maybe I'm overreacting, but if you make a zombie movie, especially in an established franchise, you need to stick to the zombie code. Maybe this would of worked in a parody film, but this had no business here. Ok rant over. Maybe with all that out in the open from the beginning you might actually like this film... but I doubt it.
