Rate Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear...Say Goodnight

ZombiesDrule thinks..ZombiesDrule obviously watches a lot of zombie films, as you know one of our tag lines is "We watch crap so you don't have to". When we saw the title of Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear...say Goodnight we braced ourselves for the worst, and we got a surprise. This is a really solid piece of work, it's shot well, the lighting and camera work is good and most importantly it tells a story in which you feel for the characters. It also makes a change to see a zombie film that doesn't rely on buckets of fake blood and missing limbs. This film is very creepy and has a high goose bump factor. I know that some of you may disagree, and if you do have your say and leave a comment. |
ZombiesDrule "Bite Size" Interview.....with Janin Palahicky
Your role was? Director/Cinematographer How did this film come about? A small group of friends went to film school together and when we graduated we decided to form a company called Montage Pictures and start making short films with all the amazing and creative people that we had met over the past few years. The idea really came from the writer/producer Jordie Keith and actor/producer Rebecca Strom who wanted to enter something into the Dead on Film festival that the Rio Theatre hosted. We had already worked together on a few shorts ("Missing Link" and "Darkest Before Dawn") and loved working together and this was a great chance to dive into something else. What were some of the difficulties faced in shooting the movie? We shot it in about six hours and really the only thing difficult was arranging the shooting schedule around the two young girls who played the daughters. It was summer when we wanted to shoot and summer is when they're both out and about with friends and family and super busy. So it was mostly scheduling, other than that, this small crew of friends work so well together that it was actually a lot of fun to shoot. Where was it filmed? How did you find the cast? We used a friend's house. His daughters were casted as the two girls. Their parents were amazing and allowed us to scatter our gear and hang out for 6 hours to shoot this little film. We found the cast just by asking my friend's daughters. They had been wanting to get into acting and jumped at the chance. How long do you think it'd take you to turn? I would hope it would take awhile, long enough to take myself out before I started wanting to nibble on people. What is next for you? What will your next movie be? We are working on a couple of shorts spanning comedy to tragedy and a webseries or two in the next few months and possibly gearing up for a feature depending on funding. Which do you prefer Fast or Slow Zombies? While I'm a fan of both fast and slow, I'm of the old school variety and like slow and creepy. The fast has it's place in the lore but that's more for the attention deficit MTV crowd. Either one can be done well and made incredibly scary. What is your weapon of choice for taking on Zombies? Machetes or chainsaws. If not then dual Glock pistols. And grenades. Lots of them. What is your favourite Zombie Film? I suck at picking only one so my choice would be a combination of Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things, Re-animator and 28 Days Later. Worst Zombie Film? Even when they're bad, they're still good...guild pleasures right?? Right?? Favorite Zombie Book or Game? Haven't read any zombie books but one of my favourite games was Stubbs The Zombie: Rebel Without a Pulse. That and Left 4 Dead and taking out ghouls in Fallout 3. See, I suck at picking only one... |
