Zombie Haiku is a neat little book that will be an easy read for anyone that's a fan of the zombie genre. It's funny and oddly cute. Written by Ryan Mecum, an avid zombie fan himself, the book takes the reader on a journey through post-apocalyptic earth from a zombie's perspective. It's such a new and interesting take on the genre that it may take you a few pages to get used to. Each page is filled with haiku poetry that tells the tale of this particular zombies transformation and existence as a fully turned zombie.

What's a haiku?

Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry, consisting of 17 moras, in three phrases of 5, 7, and 5 moras respectively. Although haiku are often stated to have 17 syllables, this is inaccurate as syllables and moras are not the same. Haiku typically contain a kigo (seasonal reference), and a kireji (cutting word). In Japanese, haiku are traditionally printed in a single vertical line, while haiku in English often appear in three lines, to parallel the three phrases of Japanese haiku. Previously called hokku, haiku was given its current name by the Japanese writer Masaoka Shiki at the end of the 19th century.

So, Zombie Haiku doesn't EXACTLY follow the proper haiku structure and more or less simplifies the poetry style but it's still great.

and I'm turning gray

They are so lucky
That I cannot remember
How to use doorknobs

Brains are less squishy
And a tad bit more squeaky
than someone might guess

I know he can't see
Because the room is pitch black
And I have his eyes

Zombie Haiku has received some pretty high-profile acclaim from the likes of 2 well-known authors.
